The anthology explores how contemporary artistic practices performatively engage with trauma and repressed histories in Austria. By bringing together perspectives from the arts, art history, philosophy, dance studies, and history, the anthology—based on the eponymous symposium held at Angewandte in 2022—addresses issues such as social forgetfulness, historical trauma, and historical denial within the countries of the former Austrian monarchy.
For the symposium Adressing Amnesia, Performing Trauma, I was invited to design the poster. In my design, I chose to play with the visible and invisible, as well as the deliberate blurring of elements, to visually emphasize the symposium’s thematic exploration of memory and trauma.
Following the symposium, a companion book was published, which I was also commissioned to design. As with the poster, I employed experimental typography, using tightly spaced lines and interwoven elements to create a subtle visual tension. This deliberate design choice evokes a sense of discomfort and disorientation— a visual reflection of the topics addressed in the book.
